Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles is seeking an Operating Room Technician to support the surgical team under the Director of Perioperative Services and the Perioperative Services Clinical Unit Supervisor. You will assist during procedures and ensure aseptic technique, sterilization, and instrument handling are maintained throughout operations.

The role emphasizes patient-centered care, collaboration with the Circulating Nurse, and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• BLS certification required.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
• Minimum of 18 months of experience in an acute care Perioperative services hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in all communications.
• Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with peers, management, and physicians.
• Communicates information to the Circulating Nurse and/or Operating Room Clinical Supervisor in a timely manner.
• Prioritizes responsibilities and multi-tasks efficiently.
• Works under pressure and remains calm in busy or stressful situations.
• Follows all hospital policies and procedures.
• Assembles supplies/equipment for the surgical procedure.
• Maintains sterility of the surgical field/equipment/environment.
• Decontaminates, cleans, and sterilizes instruments as needed.
• Collaborates with the circulating nurse to ensure accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Verifies equipment functions properly before procedures.
• Delivers patient/family-centered care per the Watson Model of Care.
