Summary

Operating Room Technician 2 performs specialized work assisting in complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms. Responsibilities include preparing operating rooms, maintaining equipment, and servicing instruments post-surgery.

Location and Unit

Miami, FL, On Call/Pool Surgery Unit

Responsibilities
  1. Use systematic processes to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
  2. Assist in inspection and cleaning of the room prior to procedures.
  3. Gather necessary equipment and supplies using the surgeon’s procedure card.
  4. Maintain aseptic technique at all times.
  5. Assemble instruments and supplies on the table and mayo stand.
  6. Perform counts with the circulating nurse.
  7. Assist in draping the operative site.
  8. Assist surgeon and scrub nurse, anticipating needs for instruments, sutures, and sponges.
  9. Identify and maintain specimens until transfer to the circulating nurse.
  10. Identify medications on sterile tables per policy.
  11. Handle sharps, cautery, and other equipment safely.
  12. Assist in patient transfer to recovery room if needed.
  13. Contribute to room cleanup and readiness for subsequent procedures.
  14. Perform unit-specific duties and demonstrate service excellence and CARE values.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.

Education

High School diploma is required.

Credentials

Operating Room Technician certification preferred. BLS and applicable life support certifications are required upon hire, valid for at least 6 months.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Extended standing/walking, lifting objects up to 100 pounds with devices, visual acuity for computer work, and reasonable accommodations available.

Environmental Conditions: Fast-paced hospital environment, exposure to communicable diseases, chemicals, and other hazards. PPE required as needed.
