Summary

Operating Room Technician 2 performs specialized work assisting in complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms. Responsibilities include preparing operating rooms, maintaining equipment, and servicing instruments post-surgery.

Location

Miami, FL - On Call/Pool Surgery Unit

Responsibilities
  • Use systematic processes to provide care and patient/family education.
  • Inspect and clean rooms prior to procedures.
  • Gather equipment and supplies using the surgeon’s procedure card.
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout all work phases.
  • Assemble instruments and supplies; perform counts with circulating nurse.
  • Assist with draping, anticipate surgeon’s needs, and handle specimens.
  • Identify medications, ensure safety measures, and assist in patient transfer if needed.
  • Clean and prepare the room for subsequent procedures.
  • Perform unit-specific duties and demonstrate service excellence and CARE values.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience

Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education

High School diploma required.

  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and professional composure in stressful situations.
  • Proficiency with relevant technology and software.
  • Maintain required certifications/licensures.
Credentials

Operating Room Technician certification preferred. BLS certification required upon hire, valid for at least 6 months, and to be maintained throughout employment.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Extended standing/walking, lifting objects up to 100 pounds with devices.

Environmental Conditions: Fast-paced hospital environment with potential exposure to infectious and hazardous materials; PPE required.
