Job summary

Jackson Memorial Hospital is seeking an Operating Room Technician II to support complex surgical procedures in the main operating room. You will prepare rooms, maintain sterile technique, assemble instruments, and assist the surgeon and team throughout each case.

The role requires 3–5 years of related experience and a High School diploma, with OR technician certification preferred. BLS certification must be maintained for the duration of employment at Jackson Memorial.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.
• Assists in inspection and cleaning of the room prior to the procedure.

• Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work.
• Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand.
• Performs counts with the circulating nurse.
• Assists in draping of the operative site.
• Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures, and sponges.
• Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy.
• Transfers patient to recovery room bed as needed.
• Cleans room and readies it for next procedure.
• Performs unit-specific duties and upholds CARE values.

Summary

Operating Room Technician 2 perform specialized work in assisting in the performance of complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms. Employees in this classification are responsible for preparation of operating rooms for surgical procedures; maintaining operational readiness of specialized equipment; serves as maintenance of operating room instruments and equipment following surgery.

Responsibilities

• Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education.

• Assumes responsibility for the identification and maintenance of specimens after release from the surgeon until release to the circulating nurse.
• Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy and procedure.
• Utilizes safety measures for patient, self and other team members in the handling of sharps, cautery and other equipment.
• Assists, when necessary, in the transfer of patient to recovery room bed.
• Assists in the total clean-up and readiness of the room for another procedure.
• Performs Unit specific duties.

• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

• Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.

Education

• High School diploma is required.

Credentials

• Operating Room Technician certification preferred.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
