Vail Valley Surgery Center (VVSC) is a multi‑specialty ambulatory center in the Eagle River Valley with locations in Vail & Edwards. What began as a joint venture between Vail Health and 25 physician investors has evolved into a leading‑edge center of surgical excellence.
At Vail Valley Surgery Center, you will find specialized surgical care in many areas including orthopedic, gastroenterology, pain management, ophthalmology, otolaryngology (ENT), plastic surgery, podiatry and general surgery. Our Vail VVSC location has 6 operating rooms and 25 pre‑op / PACU bays.
What you will do
- Assist with the surgical care of the patient in the operating room.
- Stock, pull cases for the next day, pull instruments, clean OR after cases, replenish and prepare surgical supplies, instruments and equipment.
- Function as a member of the surgical team by assisting and anticipating needs of the surgeon.
- Maintain current education in aseptic technique, routine operating room procedures, and all other duties as assigned.
- Act as a scrub person, maintaining working knowledge of aseptic technique and AORN Standards.
- Check all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, sterile indicator if present, and expiration dates.
- Maintain sterile integrity of all items and fluids introduced onto the field.
- Monitor the sterile field for events that may contaminate the field and take corrective action.
- Move within or around a sterile field in a manner that maintains integrity.
- Visually check equipment for fraying of cords, plugs or other damage before use.
- Confirm self‑test pattern when turning on machines.
- Anticipate need for equipment and supplies to avoid delays in procedures.
- Know the order of use of material and supplies.
- Report changes in room temperature to the appropriate person.
- Be perceptive to the patient’s sensory environment.
- Monitor, evaluate and revise preference cards.
- Contribute to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
- Maintain flexibility and appropriate response to changes in priorities, established plans, goals or time frames.
- Support the decisions and actions of the manager or charge nurse, respecting others.
- Participate in departmental QI program, including confidential occurrence reporting.
- Perform other duties as assigned. HIPAA compliant.

What you will need
- Experience: Preferred, one year of operating room experience working as an OR technician/surgical technician in a hospital setting.
- License(s): Licensed in the state of Colorado as a Surgical Technician (required).
- Certification(s):
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
- Certification from ASTI (Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc.) – preferred.

Pay
Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour. Hourly pay: $33.11 – $52.80 USD.
