Job summary

The Surgical Technician (ST) is a member of the Surgical Specialty Operating Room team at the St. Cloud VA Healthcare System. The primary purpose is to directly assist the surgeon and team during procedures across multiple specialties.

Responsibilities include preparing sterile setups, handling instruments, maintaining safety and infection control, and assisting with patient care. This is a full-time, day shift position with standard VA benefits and advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• Transcript must be submitted with your application.
• Only education recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
• If using foreign education, submit a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency with your transcript.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a primary scrub person handling instruments and equipment during various procedures.
• Sets up sterile field with all required items for each procedure and maintains complex sterile set-ups.
• Ensures sterile wrap/packaging are intact and chemical indicators are proper.
• Observes and responds to each stage of the procedure and anticipates surgeon needs.
• Assists with patient care, including positioning, prepping and obtaining supplies.
• Performs other duties to ensure efficient operation of the department.
