Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Surgical Support role to assist with safe patient handling and operating room turnover under RN direction. You will help prepare supplies, position patients, and maintain a clean, safe surgical environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the surgical team, transporting specimens, and supporting medication handling under supervision. A High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience are required. Shifts typically include afternoons/evenings.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: 1 year of experience, required.
• Additional Skills (required): Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing.
• Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Planning: Gather supplies / instruments / equipment pertinent to scheduled procedure. Restock operating rooms, solutions and warmers.
• Providing: Prepare and/or open supplies / instruments / equipment; assist with transportation, transfer, preparation, and positioning of patients; notify surgeon and anesthesiologist that patient is in room and ready.
• Coordinating: Participate in staff meetings; assist with orientation and training; transport specimens, blood, drugs, equipment between departments.
• Communicating: Demonstrate, explain and reinforce equipment use; relay information to the surgical team; collaborate to resolve unit issues.
• Medication: Assist professional staff in handling medications; competency training required after online module.
