Essential Functions
Deliver patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcomes) in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgical patients.

Education/Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current Registered Nurse License
- Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrates current, comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in accordance with recognized nursing standards and department policies, including the Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Assesses physiological and psychosocial health status of patients.
- Assesses pain per policy.
- Completes patient history documentation.
- Reports pertinent information verbally to appropriate staff for continuity of care.
- Documents information legibly in patient records, signing with appropriate professional title.
- Assesses patient and family understanding and expectations of care.
- Identifies desired patient outcomes.
- Establishes nursing diagnoses.
- Sets mutually acceptable patient/family goals.
- Develops and implements tailored nursing care plans.
- Demonstrates assessment and problem-solving abilities.
- Responds effectively to emergencies.
- Practices within legal and ethical guidelines (Nurse Practice Act, legal statutes, ANA Code for Nurses, PRMC Policies and Procedures).
- Performs nursing actions demonstrating accountability and safe judgment.
- Adjusts care plans based on patient and family data.
- Follows proper preoperative communication and reporting procedures.
- Performs surgical case counting and documentation properly.
- Uses aseptic techniques appropriately.
- Ensures efficient turnover times.
- Obtains blood products correctly.
- Verifies patient identification per policy.
- Identifies and marks surgical sites per policy.
- Anticipates surgeon’s needs during procedures.
- Participates in professional nursing organizations.
