Position Summary
This position is responsible for facilitating patient safety by ensuring the safe functioning of Operating Room equipment and by maintaining and overseeing the perioperative equipment management program for the Operating room. The role oversees the safeguarding of all surgical equipment, coordinates equipment evaluations, and provides staff education regarding new and existing equipment.
Core Functions
- Performs timely troubleshooting and minor repairs or facilitates major repairs of all department equipment, coordinating maintenance with designated vendors and Plant Services.
- Serves as the first‑line resource to physicians and staff for equipment troubleshooting across all department specialties.
- Operates specialized equipment such as the cell saver, laser, imaging‑guided devices, video and microscope, maintaining lens balances and exchanges, and holds relevant certifications.
- Maintains documentation and databases for equipment repairs, and reports status to management, physicians, and staff on a weekly basis.
- Conducts safety checks on all equipment prior to patient use and ensures proper electrical load distribution for multi‑piece equipment setups.
- Identifies continuing education needs related to new equipment or procedures, assisting the nursing educator in meeting these needs.
- Secures all surgical equipment, preventing loss and ensuring physical security.
- Facilitates efficient OR room turnover by anticipating equipment needs and communicating status updates to management and staff weekly.
- Has facility‑wide responsibility; internal customers include other staff, physicians, patients, visitors, vendors, and external medical facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- One year of perioperative or procedural services, biomedical, or comparable experience, including knowledge of related equipment and supplies.
- Effective organizational, communication, and human‑relations skills; the incumbent will coordinate projects, manage time, and work closely with department managers and all staff levels.

- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Hours per Week: 40 hours (4‑10‑hour shifts)
Shift: Days
On Call: Yes, weekend and holiday rotations required.
Enjoy an 18% night shift differential and a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential when applicable.
