Job summary

Kaiser Permanente is seeking an experienced perioperative nurse to provide quality patient care in surgical settings. The RN will function as both scrub and circulating nurse across multiple specialties, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and the nursing philosophy.

The role requires coordinating OR team efforts, developing care plans for each patient, and maintaining a safe environment for staff and patients.

Qualifications

  • Requires RN licensure in Maryland, Virginia, or DC/compact as applicable.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Credentials from multiple states are required at hire; additional credentials from secondary state(s) required post hire.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the standard of care in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the perioperative nursing care during the surgical process.
  • Directs the coordination of OR team members in perioperative nursing care while in the circulating, scrub, pre-op or recovery nurse.
  • Develops a perioperative nursing care plan on each surgical patient.
  • Ensures a safe supportive environment for staff, physicians and patients.
  • Assembles and communicates information in verbal or written reports to maintain continuity of care.
  • Maintains current skill and knowledge of surgical procedures and sterile techniques.
  • Executes proper use, care, handling and processing of equipment and instrumentation used in the surgical area.
  • Participates in operating room Quality Assurance program.
  • Promotes personal and professional growth through continuing education.
  • Supports professionalism in the operating room with courtesy, respect and adherence to standards.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

Job Summary:

  • Utilizes the standard of care in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the surgical patient in the delivery of perioperative nursing care during the surgical process.
  • Directs the coordination of efforts of the OR team members in rendering perioperative nursing care while in the roll of the circulating, scrub, pre-op or recovery nurse.
  • Develops a perioperative nursing care plan on each surgical patient.
  • Ensures a safe supportive environment for staff, physicians and patients.
  • Assembles and communicates appropriate information in verbal or written reports in order to maintain continuity of care in the perioperative nursing process.
  • Maintains current skill and knowledge of surgical procedures and principles of sterile techniques.
  • Executes proper use, care, handling and processing of equipment, supplies and instrumentation used in the area of surgical specialty.
  • Participates in operating room Quality Assurance program.
  • Promotes personal and professional growth by actively participating in continuing education programs.
  • Participates in the professionalism of the operating room by showing courtesy, compassion, respect and adherence to the standards.
  • Performs other related duties as directed.

License, Certification, Registration
  • This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required at hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.
  • Registered Nurse License (Maryland) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Virginia) within 6 months of hire

OR

  • Compact License: Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire
  • Registered Nurse License (District of Columbia) within 6 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
  • N/A
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum two (2) years experience preferred in RN, Surgical Assistant or Surgical Tech Role preferred.
  • Recent Ambulatory Surgery experience preferred.
  • Certification in IV insertion and therapy preferred.
  • CNOR Preferred.
