Job summary

Truman Medical Centers is seeking a skilled Operating Room Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team at University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. This part-time role supports the operating room, with a 6:45PM–7:15AM schedule and 36 hours per week, emphasizing asepsis and precision.

You will prepare instruments, maintain a sterile environment, and collaborate with surgeons while adapting to changing patient needs and priorities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program (CAAHEP) or formal military training as a surgical corpsman or medic or a minimum of three (3) years of hands‑on scrub experience across a variety of procedures.
• Current BLS certification (must be maintained throughout employment).
• Successful completion of OR department orientation and skills competency evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, organize, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment for a wide variety of procedures.
• Ensure a sterile environment and uphold all principles of surgical asepsis throughout procedures.
• Work collaboratively with surgeons and the surgical team, anticipating needs and responding efficiently during procedures.
• Adapt quickly to changes in patient condition or procedure requirements.
• Serve as a mentor and resource for surgical technologists new to the OR or currently in orientation.

Additional Requirements

• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, wear protective gear such as a 10lb. x‑ray apron for hours, and lift up to 50lbs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm and focused under pressure.
• Flexible with scheduling and able to respond to changing patient needs and surgical priorities.
• Excellent time management and the ability to work independently.
