Job summary

UNC Health's UNC Medical Center Children’s OR seeks dedicated Environmental Services staff to support operating room operations and transport patients to and from the OR. The role collaborates with nurses, circulators, anesthesia and other staff to ensure clean, stocked, and ready OR suites.

Work type is full time with a 36-hour weekly schedule, on site in Chapel Hill, NC. Salary range is $19.12–$27.17 per hour, with offers determined by experience and internal equity.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider certification.
• A combination of prior training and/or experience that provides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.
• No formal degree required as long as other position qualifications are met.

Responsibilities

• Changes mop water, mop, and cleans mop room and hallways, and maintains sub-sterile and scrub sink areas per policy and procedure.
• Communicates with RN circulator and OR schedule coordinator to plan transport, assistance with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep. Assists with other patient care activities as assigned by circulator.
• Obtains case needs for each OR suite including positioning aids, equipment, and room supplies. Obtains linen cart and distributes linens. Checks and restocks warmers throughout shift. Obtains bed from floor or ICU. Obtains clean patient stretcher with clean linens, IV pole, oxygen tank with adequate oxygen level. Obtains blood, blood products and medications from appropriate location. Stocks OR suites.
• Transports specimens, blood and blood products to and from laboratories.

UNC Medical Center Children's OR is a unit with six operating suites, averaging 20-25 cases per day. Our Children's OR staff are able to work in multiple service areas, including Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial, Burns, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, and Dental Surgery. The OR uses new, innovative state of the art equipment that reinforces continuous learning opportunities. The Children's OR staff are collegial and supportive of each other. Surgeons, OR staff, Anesthesia team and all ancillary services work together daily to provide high quality care for the most acute pediatric patients in North Carolina.

Summary
