Job summary

UNC Health Care's UNC Medical Center Children's OR unit operates six operating suites, handling 20-25 cases daily and supporting a range of pediatric specialties. The Environmental Services Technician performs environmental, equipment and supply maintenance for Operating Rooms and assists in transporting patients to and from the OR to support high-quality pediatric care.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider certification.
• Prior training or experience that enables performing assigned tasks.
• Ability to communicate with RN circulator and OR schedule coordinator to plan transport and assist with patient care.

Responsibilities

• Changes mop water, cleans mop room and hallways, and maintains sub-sterile areas per policy.
• Communicates with RN circulator and OR schedule coordinator to plan transport and assist with positioning.
• Obtains case needs for each OR suite including positioning aids and supplies, stocks rooms and distributes linens.
• Transports specimens, blood and blood products to and from laboratories.

UNC Medical Center Children's OR is a unit with six operating suites, averaging 20-25 cases per day. Our Children's OR staff are able to work in multiple service areas, including Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial, Burns, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, and Dental Surgery. The OR uses new, innovative state of the art equipment that reinforces continuous learning opportunities. The Children's OR staff are collegial and supportive of each other. Surgeons, OR staff, Anesthesia team and all ancillary services work together daily to provide high quality care for the most acute pediatric patients in North Carolina.

Summary:
Performs environmental, equipment and supply maintenance services for Operating Rooms, assists in transportation of patients to and from the Operating Rooms and other duties as specified by licensed personnel

Responsibilities:
1. Changes mop water, mop, and cleans mop room and hallways, and maintains sub-sterile and scrub sink areas per policy and procedure.
2. Communicates with RN circulator and OR schedule coordinator to plan transport, assistance with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep. Assists with other patient care activities as assigned by circulator.
3. Obtains case needs for each OR suite including positioning aids, equipment, and room supplies. Obtains linen cart and distributes linens. Checks and restocks warmers throughout shift. Obtains bed from floor or ICU. Obtains clean patient stretcher with clean linens, IV pole, oxygen tank with adequate oxygen level. Obtains blood, blood products and medications from appropriate location. Stocks OR suites.
4. Transports specimens, blood and blood products to and from laboratories.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* A combination of prior training and/or experience that provides the ability to perform the assigned tasks.
