Summary:
The Operating Room Attendant is responsible for the transport of pre-operative and post-operative patients, assisting with positioning of surgical patients, cleaning operating rooms between surgeries, maintaining equipment and storerooms, obtaining supply carts and special-order items, and assisting with direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities:

• Transport patients, specimens, blood, and blood products between clinical areas. Assist with positioning and holding limbs for surgical site prep. Complete pre-op skin prep as outlined in physician orders.
• Obtain case needs for each operating room by positioning equipment, aids, and supplies. Assist with all aspects of room setup and cleaning.
• Perform delegated duties as a member of the surgical team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assist with other patient care activities as assigned by the circulator.
• Maintain a safe environment for patient care by effectively completing cleaning between cases in the Operating Room. Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning agents and their intended use.
• Clean and prepare the operating room between cases. Promote a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment, including applying standard precautions and infection control principles.
• Ensure surgical department/hallways and scrub sinks are clean and free of clutter or debris. Stock assigned supplies and equipment as needed.

Other information:

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred:

• Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant course
• Experience working in a surgical setting

Working Conditions:

• Physically demanding; includes handling and lifting patients
• Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
• Working irregular hours including call hours
