Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking an Operating Room Assistant for the Endoscopy unit at our Boston campus. The role supports total GI care with primarily outpatient cases and some inpatients or transfers.

You will join a team dedicated to safety, patient-centered care, and efficient OR operations. The schedule is 40 hours, Monday–Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm, with no night shifts and alternating weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Experience: 0-1 year in Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care is desired; OR experience in OR is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure excellent patient care and safety in the operating room.
• Provide patient and family friendly interactions and hospital information.
• Assist with hospital/unit orientation for guests, patients, and families.
• Familiarity with hospital systems and department locations.
• Refer patients and families to appropriate resources.
• Independently transport and assist in patient transfers.
• Identify patients using two identifiers and follow safety protocols.
• Support patient transfers and ensure comfort and privacy.
• Perform other duties as assigned and comply with policies.

Job Summary

Schedule: 40 hours | Days(5) 8-hour shifts | 7:00 am- 3:30pm | Monday -Friday | No nights Alternating weekend/holidays required.

The Opportunity

Operating Room Assistant -Endoscopy-Blake 4

The Endoscopy Unit provides total gastrointestinal care. Ninety percent of the patients are outpatient, and the remaining ten percent are inpatients or transfers from another facility. There are approximately 20,000 cases performed in the unit annually.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room.
• Promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patient, families and hospital personnel.
• Provides hospital/unit orientation information for guest, patients and families.
• Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, procedure areas and other patient services.
• Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
• Independently transports and assists in the transfer of patients.
• Properly identifies patients utilizing 2 approved identifiers.
• Ensures safety and support measures in patient transfer ( i.e. bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm).
• Is aware of special precautions in transferring patients with precautions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials: Experience Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience 0-1 year required and Operating Room Experience 0-1 year preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
• Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
• Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines.
