Brown University Health is seeking a Surgical Services Assistant to support the operating suite by transporting patients, delivering supplies, and preparing rooms and instruments for procedures.
This role emphasizes patient safety, aseptic techniques, and collaboration with nursing staff. Work is in Rhode Island Hospital, with a schedule of Monday to Friday and alternating weekends, day shift.
Under general supervision, but according to established policies and procedures, performs variety of non-medical duties in support of Surgical Services. Such activities include, but are not limited to, transporting patients to and from Operating Room; picking up and/or delivering supplies, materials, specimens, cultures and the like. Assists in preoperative scrubs; assists in lifting, positioning and supporting patients. Cleans and prepares equipment utilized in surgical procedures; prepares material for sterilization. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the operating rooms. Assembles charge form packets.

Physical abilities to transport patients throughout the Hospital, to assist in lifting and positioning patients and to clean and set up equipment. Works in the Operating Room area and is exposed to odors, bodily fluids, etc. when assisting with patients. Required to work for extended periods in standing position when assisting with preoperative procedures. Some exposure to chemical fumes and infectious disease when cleaning equipment and rooms. Frequent standing, walking, lifting and carrying in order to clean equipment and replenish supplies, transport patients and materials and stock areas. Hazards of injury are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.
