Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Operating Engineer performs routine or skilled preventive maintenance duties in the repair, alteration, and modification of buildings, equipment, and facilities.

Responsibilities

1. Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws.
2. Inspect equipment and facilities for proper operation.
3. Maintain records and diagnose malfunctions.
4. Adjust, disassemble, repair, or replace parts, and test for proper operation.
5. Report serious problems to the Chief Engineer.
6. Attend to boilers and related equipment, making necessary adjustments and testing water chemistry.
7. Service and repair HVAC and refrigeration equipment, replacing filters and fluids.
8. Perform general maintenance and repairs on machinery, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, following standard procedures and diagrams.
9. Perform routine manual duties such as moving supplies, replacing bulbs, and cleaning.
10. Establish courteous relations with personnel, members, and the public.
11. Perform other related duties as required.

Experience and Education

• 3-5 years of Building Plant Operations and Maintenance experience within the last year.
• Associate of Arts Degree in Engineering or related field.

Licenses and Certifications

• Steam Engineer Unlimited License (California) OR Los Angeles Steam Engineer 500 HP License.
• Driver's License (where applicable).
• Universal Chlorofluorocarbons Certificate within six months of hire.

Additional Requirements

• Knowledge of equipment, controls, and building automation.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
• Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Unlimited Steam Engineer/Boiler Operator License.
