The Hattiesburg Water Plant is seeking an entry-level Operating Engineer to operate and maintain two water treatment plants. You will perform routine testing and document results, answer telephones and interact with the public, and dispatch on-call personnel while maintaining an official log.
A training period is provided. After training, responsibilities include grounds maintenance of the plants and performance of routine equipment maintenance; you must obtain Waterworks Operator Certification

Nature Of Work
This is an entry level position. The primary duties of an operator are to perform tasks associated with operating and maintaining the two main water treatment plants. This requires routine testing to be performed, as well as the documentation of results. In addition, the job requires answering the telephone/interacting with the public, dispatching on-call personnel and decision-making in conjunction with operating the plant as well as maintaining an official log.
A training period is required to learn the operation of the plants. After the initial training period, the employee will be responsible for grounds maintenance of the water plants, including elevated tanks, wells and other remote sites. The employee will also be assigned routine maintenance tasks as required, in addition to the maintenance of equipment such as mowers, trimmers, etc.
The employee must be available to work all shifts as required, including weekends and holidays and in all types of weather conditions.
The employee will also be expected to obtain Waterworks Operator Certification within five (5) years of the date of hire. This requires a minimum of three years (3) of experience as an operator and the passing of a written exam.
