Job summary

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City invites applications for a tenure-track opera faculty position within the School of Music. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in vocal performance (Doctorate preferred) with significant national/international experience and a proven record of teaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in vocal performance, opera, or a closely related field.
• Significant professional experience as an opera singer, director, or vocal coach at the national or international level.
• Demonstrated success in teaching opera performance, acting for singers, or related subjects at the collegiate or conservatory level.
• Proven ability to mentor emerging artists in artistic, technical, and career development.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach Opera Workshop for undergraduate and graduate performance students.
• Assist with role preparation and stagecraft for opera productions, with individualized coaching on interpretation, diction, and stage presence.
• Direct staged opera scenes and/or full productions with the program's principal coach, conductor, and production team.
• Mentor students on repertoire, audition technique, career strategy, and industry networking.
• Collaborate with voice, collaborative piano, conducting, and other faculty to integrate training with curricular goals.
• Maintain an active profile as performer, director, or industry professional to enhance program visibility.
• Participate in recruitment, auditions, and outreach within the department and university.
