Florida Gulf Coast University’s Bower School of Music and the Arts invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of vocal pedagogy and opera stage directing, beginning August 2027.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate voice lessons, direct opera workshop, and oversee FGCU Opera Theater productions, while pursuing scholarly and artistic activity.

Flexibility in repertoire and commitment to student development are essential, with multi-year renewal and nine-month appointment.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree required in vocal pedagogy or closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly/creative achievement.
• Two years of professional college teaching experience in applied voice and opera direction.
• ABD candidates considered for Lecturer appointment if degree not yet conferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and teach undergraduate voice courses and studios.
• Direct opera workshop and oversee FGCU Opera Theater productions.
• Prepare students for degree recitals and serve on recital committees.
• Collaborate with theatre and music faculty on productions.
• Maintain an active program of scholarly/creative activity.
• Engage with community arts organizations and professional service.
