Job summary

The Alexandria Area YMCA is seeking Lifeguards to join their aquatics team this summer. Candidates will supervise the pool area, provide exceptional service, and ensure safety at all times.

Applicants must have a current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification. The role pays between $15.00 - $16.50 per hour and offers flexible scheduling along with benefits such as free membership and paid time off.

Description

The YMCA is hiring Lifeguards for our aquatics team! If you are responsible, energetic, and enjoy working with people of all ages, we’d love to have you join us this summer.

Position Responsibilities

• Actively supervising the pool area to ensure safety at all times
• Providing an exceptional and welcoming experience for children, families, and guests
• Enforcing pool rules fairly, consistently, and courteously
• Responding quickly and effectively to emergencies, following all safety protocols
• Adhering to YMCA policies and procedures, including emergency and safety standards

Pay

$15.00 - $16.50/hour

Schedule

We are currently seeking applicants who are available to work Monday and Friday mornings from 5:00am – 9:00am. Additional shifts may also be available based on availability and scheduling needs.

Requirements

• Current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification (required)
• Strong commitment to water safety and member service
• Ability to remain alert, vigilant, and proactive in enforcing safety rules
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Demands

• Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
• Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 20 pounds or remove a victim from the water in the event of an emergency.
• Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
