Job summary

The City of Philadelphia Law Department seeks an Assistant City Solicitor for the Compliance & Legislation Group's Right to Know Unit. This role focuses on advising City departments on Right-to-Know Law requests, appeals, and related privacy issues, with emphasis on record retention and training.

Entry-level position with preferred 1+ year legal experience; must have a PA-eligible or admitted bar and ABA-accredited law degree. Fully onsite five days a week.

Qualifications

• Law degree from ABA accredited law school.
• Member in good standing of Pennsylvania Bar or eligible by reciprocity (Pa.B.A.R. 204).
• Entry level position; 1 year+ relevant legal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent the City of Philadelphia on Right-to-Know Law matters and related privacy/confidentiality issues.
• Interact with City departments, offices, boards, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure compliant release of records.
• Review records and provide legal guidance for public release decisions and retention matters.
• Research legal issues, draft memoranda, and support appeals and related litigation.
• Update forms, training documents, and provide training to Open Records Officers and City employees.
