The Health and Human Services system (HHS) is hiring attorneys to join the Open Records and Data Governance Department in the Legal Services Division of the HHS Office of Chief Counsel (OCC). The attorneys will join the Open Records team, which is responsible for supporting the HHS agencies' compliance with the Texas Public Information Act (PIA).

These attorneys perform highly complex (senior-level) legal work that involves communication with requestors and HHS system areas responsible for requested information, reviewing documentation, redacting documents in preparation for release, applying internal policies and procedures, drafting and submitting written briefs to the Office of the Attorney General, escalating issues within OCC, and briefing HHS leadership, when needed. The attorneys work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with confidential records/files/information.
  • Knowledge of widely used computer software.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications Attorney must be licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and hold membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Initial Screening Criteria Experience in legal work. Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
