Job description

The IT, Analytics, and Operations (ITAO) Department, at theUniversity of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business, incollaboration with the Data, AI, and Computing Initiative (DAC),announces an open-rank position at the assistant, associate, orfull professor level.

The ideal candidate has a strong record of interesting andimpactful scholarship or great potential for such scholarship. Thisentails significant publication success at premier outlets and/or astrong pipeline of innovative and rigorous research relevant toData, AI, and Computing in business applications. Preference willbe given to individuals whose research complements the interests ofour existing faculty. Candidates pushing the envelope in excitingboundary-spanning areas at the intersection of business, analyticalmodeling, computational social science, machine learning, networkscience, human-centered artificial intelligence, or experimentationmethods are encouraged to apply.

The ITAO Department is home to a host of approaches andbackgrounds, making for a vibrant research environment, whichresults in frequent, compelling, and unique collaborative researchprojects among our faculty. The department also houses theHuman-centered Analytics Lab (HAL), Generative AI, Management, andAccountability Lab (GAMA), and the Humanitarian Operations Lab(HOPE).

ITAO is well-aligned with the university's Data, AI, and ComputingInitiative, which launched in September 2025. The initiative's aimis to advance purposeful data, AI, and computing--excelling infoundational research while catalyzing interdisciplinarycollaboration and real-world translation to address pressingsocietal challenges.

Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroomwith an interest in teaching in areas related to analytics, broadlydefined. In addition to our PhD program in Analytics, the ITAODepartment offers an undergraduate major in Business Analytics, twoAI minors, and a Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA)program. The Mendoza College of Business is home to a highlyregarded Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program, forwhich we offer a major in Analytics & AI.

The ITAO Department is an integral part of the University of NotreDame's interdisciplinary efforts to make an impact on scholarshipand society through analytical modeling, operations research, dataanalytics, artificial intelligence, and computationally intensiveresearch. There are also interdisciplinary collaborativeopportunities, such as the possibility of affiliate faculty statusin other departments (e.g., CS or Statistics) or the Lucy FamilyInstitute for Data and Society. ITAO researchers enjoy generousallocations of resources from Notre Dame's Center for ResearchComputing and the support of a staff of three full‑time MendozaCollege of Business data scientists and a director of behavioralresearch who oversees the Mendoza Behavioral Lab.

Duties include research, teaching, and service. The teaching loadis 9 credit hours per year and will also contribute to coursessupporting our AI minors. Salary and research budget are highlycompetitive, with generous summer support based on researchproductivity.

Successful candidates would, depending on qualifications andimpact, be hired into a tenure-track assistant professor, tenuredassociate professor, or full professor role.

Candidates at the entry level must have completed all requirementsfor a Ph.D. degree or have completed all but dissertation inAnalytics or a related field with degree expected by August 2027.Candidates at the advanced assistant, associate, or full professorlevel must have a Ph.D. in Analytics or a related field.
