Job description

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking an experienced clinician and committed leader who is capable of leading and expanding our Child and Adolescent services as the Division Head of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

The mission of the Division is to promote Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult Mental Health through excellence in clinical service, superior education of medical students, residents and fellows, innovative research agendas with a strong clinical and societal impact, and synergistic collaboration with others who share our goals. The section includes the Child and Family Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, the Child and Adolescent Pediatric Consultation Service, the Child and Adolescent Telepsychiatry Service, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program, and the Child and Adolescent and Young Adult Psychiatry Research Center.

The successful candidate for this unique opportunity will build an environment conducive to attracting and retaining talented clinicians and researchers to serve the community, the UVA Health System, and across Virginia. The Division Head of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry will have the demonstrated experience necessary to lead and manage the Child and Family Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic with the drive and persistence to expand the Child and Adolescent services over the next several years. The Child Clinic is conveniently located within a short distance from the UVA Health Medical Center and currently houses three (3) attending physicians, a psychologist with specialization in child psychiatry, a nurse practitioner and up to eight (8) fellows. Most consultations are handled via telepsychiatry and no travel is required.

The Division Head will benefit from a financially-sound Psychiatry Department that is well-supported by the Department Chair, Dean, and UVA Health System to expand the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division. UVA's experienced faculty members are leaders in the mental health field from diverse backgrounds and skills. Faculty are actively engaged in clinical practice as well as teaching, and are uniquely dedicated to the concept of education in medicine. Many are researchers and have made significant contributions to the field and the scientific understanding of psychiatric conditions.
