The School of Law benefits from strong momentum; robust university support and financial resources; respected and experienced institutional leadership; talented and motivated students; collegial faculty and staff; a brand new, first-class facility; and an innovative curriculum focused on holistic professional formation.

The law faculty seeks to add one (1) full-time colleague in the Legal Research and Writing (LRW) Program who will contribute to a stimulating intellectual environment and who desires to join a community that appreciates an entrepreneurial spirit, creative collaboration, and high aspirations. The faculty member will generally teach three (3) sections of LRW I (fall) and LRW II (spring), with approximately ten (10) students in each section.

Salary and academic rank (assistant, associate, or full professor of law) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. After an initial service period, the position is eligible for presumptively renewable 5-year contracts (sometimes referred to as "clinical tenure" in furtherance of American Bar Association Standard 405(c) and (d)). The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2027.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Exemplary academic record.
  • Bar license in at least one state or the District of Columbia (active or inactive).
  • Sufficient experience as a practicing attorney, with a well-rounded view of the legal profession and the settings in which legal writing occurs; demonstrated excellence in legal analysis, research, and writing; an interest in pedagogy and scholarship related to the LRW discipline; and the ability to communicate effectively, both in the classroom and in one-on-one conferences with students (American Bar Association's Legal Writing Sourcebook (3d ed. 2020)).
  • Strong desire to contribute to the mission and vision of High Point University and the Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law.
  • Articulated interest in educating and mentoring law students.
  • Clear commitment to teaching legal research and writing and related skills courses.
  • Desire to create a welcoming, inspiring, and rigorous learning experience for all students.
