Position Description

The Department of Microbial Pathogenesis at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We seek an exceptional scientist with a research program focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms of disease, particularly those underlying the initiation, progression, and resolution of fungal infections.

Candidates whose work addresses host-fungus interactions are of special interest, especially those studying filamentous fungi or applying immunological approaches to understand pathogenic processes. We welcome applicants with expertise in fungal pathogenesis, genetics, molecular biology, innate immunology, genomics, functional genomics, systems biology, or related disciplines. Outstanding candidates working in any area broadly related to fungal disease and host responses are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program, contribute to graduate and professional education, and participate in departmental and university service activities. The candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment with opportunities for interaction across microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases, genomics, and cell biology.All department faculty will also be members of the Graduate Program in Life Sciences, University of Maryland Graduate School.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D., D.D.S., M.D., or equivalent degree and postdoctoral research experience. Evidence of scholarly accomplishment, innovation, and the potential to develop an internationally recognized research program is required.
