The successful candidate will join a highly productive and expanding abdominal transplant program dedicated to the surgical management of patients requiring complex multi‑organ transplantation.

Clinical responsibilities will include the evaluation, operative management, and longitudinal care of patients undergoing liver, kidney, pancreas, and multi‑organ transplantation, as well as surgical management of end‑stage organ disease and transplant‑related complications. The position emphasizes excellence in deceased and living donor surgery, advanced immunosuppression management, and participation in innovative approaches to organ preservation and allocation.

The role includes active participation in medical student, resident, and transplant surgery fellow education, with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and mentorship. Robust clinical, translational, and outcomes research opportunities are available, supported by strong institutional infrastructure. Tenure eligibility is dependent upon qualifications.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate comprehensive ability to provide high‑level surgical care for transplant patients at UVA, along with a commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration across hepatology, nephrology, critical care, and advanced practice teams. A strong interest in academic medicine, innovation in transplantation, and advancing the field through research, quality improvement, and technology adoption is essential.

The University of Virginia Health System offers significant infrastructure and a collaborative environment to support the candidate’s professional pursuits, including clinical care, research, education, quality improvement, simulation, and program development. We provide a highly competitive compensation package with exceptional benefits.

Candidates must have an MD and be board certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. They should have completed fellowship training in Abdominal Transplant Surgery and be certified or eligible for certification by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, along with advanced knowledge and substantial experience in liver, kidney, pancreas, and multiorgan transplantation. A strong interest in academic medicine is essential, including a commitment to teaching and scholarly activity.
