Job summary

P&C Recruiting and HR is seeking a Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer to oversee technical services planning and design of pits, including drill and blast patterns, in a gold mining open-pit environment.

The role requires leadership to ensure zero harm, develop talent, and deliver precise mine and dump plans while maximizing ore recovery and adhering to the long-range plan. Strong Deswik and MS Office skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from an accredited university.
• 5 years minimum, 8 years preferred mining experience with at least 5 years of exposure to the gold mining industry in an open pit environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for the Technical Services team to achieve zero harm to people and environment.
• Support department training by documenting Principal Control Plans, Principal Hazard Management Plans and SOPs.
• Mentor engineers and drive development goals, succession planning, and talent growth.
• Plan, produce, and optimize daily, weekly, and rolling three-month mine and dump plans within long-range constraints.
• Maintain and standardize the design database and design signoff processes.
• Collaborate with mine operations to meet monthly plan requirements and improve software usage.
• Monitor short- and long-term plans to meet critical path targets and maximize ore recovery.
• Use reconciliation data to optimize ore mining and accurately predict grade and tonnage.

Job Description

Effectively oversee and support technical services planning groups in short and long-range time frames both in planning and design of pits along with drill & blast patterns, employing advanced mine engineering practices. Ensure the safe, timely, and professional execution of all functions within an open-pit mining environment.

1. Provide support & leadership that enables the Technical Services team to achieve zero harm to our people and environment.

• Support department training plan by providing and maintaining documentation to key Principal Control Plans, Principal Hazard Management Plans and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Support site wide safety programs by performing field verifications of critical controls to Fatal Risks.

1. Provide leadership and support that enables the Technical Services team to perform at a high level and achieve their professional development goals.

• Mentor & train engineers providing guidance on best practices
• Establishment of development goals for all team members, focusing on employee growth and succession potential
• Participation in succession planning exercise
• 3 Support the execution of site business plan.

• Manage the production of precise daily, weekly, and rolling three-month mine and dump plans, maximizing efficiency and productivity while adhering to the constraints of the current long-range plan and forecast.
• Maintain the design database, standardizing all design areas and the design signoff process.
• Collaborate with mine operations for any changes required to meet monthly mine and dump plan requirements.
• Improve the effective use of mining software and explore technical solutions/new products related to the production planning process.
• Monitor the short- and long-term plan to ensure critical path targets are achieved.
• Ensure mining is planned and executed to maximize ore recovery and minimize mining dilution.
• Utilize reconciliation data to optimally mine the defined ore, reliably predicting grade and tonnages.
