Job summary

Trinity Health MI is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist for day shifts in Michigan. You will assist surgeons by preparing instruments, maintaining strict aseptic technique, and supporting open-heart team needs.

The role requires one year of inpatient surgical tech experience and BLS certification, with ACLS preferred. Responsibilities include perioperative support across sterile and non-sterile boundaries, plus participation in call schedules and adherence to hospital protocols.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Associate Degree Program for Surgical Technology or Certification Program for Surgical Technology.
• Preferred: Certification completed within 12 months of hire or existing credential.
• BLS required; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists surgeons and residents by selecting, organizing, and passing surgical instruments and supplies.
• Maintains aseptic technique and proper attire, including scrubbing and gloving.
• Identifies breaches in asepsis and implements corrective actions.
• Performs reprocessing duties: decontamination, tray assembly, sterilization, documentation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provides assistance as necessary to surgeons and residents by selecting, organizing, anticipating and passing surgical instruments, medical supplies, equipment, and provides retraction under the direction of the surgeon.
• Maintains highest standard of aseptic technique during all operative procedures, including surgical attire, surgical hand scrub, surgical gowning of self and team, surgical gloving of self and team, boundary between sterile and non-sterile areas, and traffic patterns.
• Identifies breaches in aseptic technique and implements interventions for resolution.
• Performs all phases of reprocessing including decontamination, tray assembly, sterilization, documentation, and problem resolution for parameter failure.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• 2 x 8 hr shifts, 2 x 10 hr shifts variable day shift hours
• Weekends and holidays to be scheduled in accordance with CBA.

Education

• Required: Graduate of an Associate Degree Program for Surgical Technology or Certification Program for Surgical Technology.

Credentials / Licensure

• Preferred: Certification from Associate Degree Program or Certification Program completed within twelve (12) months of hire. Previous job training for surgical tech position acceptable with a Certification of Surgical Technology that has been maintained since receiving it.
• BLS required, ACLS preferred.

Related Experience

• Must have at least one (1) year of inpatient Surgical Technologist experience and preferred one (1) year of Cardiovascular Services experience or open‑heart surgery experience. Must be able to take required call for the open-heart team.
