UNDER THE RAINBOW Psychologist Position Description

Sinai Health System is currently the largest provider of mental health services for west Chicago communities. For over 25 years, Sinai has offered outpatient therapy for children aged 3-18 and their families through its Under the Rainbow (UTR) program, a community mental health center housed in Mount Sinai Hospital.

Under the Rainbow aims to prevent, reduce, and facilitate recovery from childhood trauma. More than 85 percent of participating children have experienced traumatic events or complex trauma, leading to mental health, behavioral, or school issues. Therapeutic services are individualized to promote the full well-being of children and adolescents, utilizing natural, family, and community support systems.

These services foster resilience and emotional recovery by understanding children within their cultural, familial, and community contexts and supporting family functioning accordingly. Services are provided through various modalities, including individual, group, and family therapy, all utilizing a trauma-informed and evidence-based approach. UTR offers services in both Spanish and English, using a combination of in-person and telehealth modalities. The team comprises psychologists, social workers, crisis workers, counselors, doctoral externs, and master's interns. UTR accepts most insurance carriers, with 90% of families served on Medicaid. While serving a diverse range of clinical needs, many clients present moderate acuity and complex needs, with regular risk assessments and involvement with external systems such as DCFS, SASS, legal, educational, and family systems.

The psychologist role involves managing an active caseload of approximately 25-30 individual and family therapy cases, conducting psychological testing, co-leading therapy groups, participating in grant-based programs, and training interns and externs. Psychologists also rotate on call shifts for Sinai and Holy Cross emergency departments to provide crisis consultation. Regular supervision tailored to developmental level and licensure requirements is provided, fostering a collaborative and collegial environment.
