Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a district on the rise, serving over 325,000 students in 500+ schools and employing over 45,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.
Nutrition Support Services (NSS) is responsible to support the District’s academic community by providing nutritious and appealing meals with excellent customer service, in a safe and clean environment to every student each school day. All meals comply with nutrition standards set forth in the USDA’s Child Nutrition Program meal patterns.
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) regulations require each school food authority (SFA), with more than one site where reimbursable meals are served, to annually conduct their own review of each site’s meal count and claiming procedures. As part of these federal and state regulations, the District requires a dedicated team of Onsite Reviewers to conduct reviews at all CPS schools throughout the district.
