Job summary

Surgeons Choice Medical Center is seeking an Onsite/Remote Medical Coder in its Medical Records Department. The role involves coding diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM and CPT-4, with attention to DRG assignment and regulatory guidelines.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of coding experience, a high school diploma or GED, and relevant coding certifications (CCS, CPC, CPC-H, RHIA, RHIT) are preferred. This full-time position offers a structured shift and benefits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Under general supervision, reviews medical records and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes using ICD-9-CM / ICD-10-CM (as applicable) and CPT-4 coding classification systems.
• Assigns and sequences all codes following coding guidelines published by the American Hospital Association and American Medical Association to assure appropriate DRG assignment.
• Performs data entry utilizing multi-grouper encoding systems as applicable.
• Adheres to the American Health Information Management Association code of ethics.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Revenue.

Requirements:

• Education / Experience
• High School Diploma / GED Required
• Book Coding experience required
• Minimum of 3-5 years coding experience required
• Licensure / Certification
• Must possess one or more of the following certifications :CCS, CPC, CPC-H, RHIA, RHITC.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of coding software
• Knowledge of major disease process, pharmacology, and concepts of disease.
• Knowledge of classification systems, IDC-9-CM / ICD-10-CM nomenclature, and CPT-4 coding guidelines.
• Skill in understanding medical / surgical coding procedures and protocols.
• Skill in interpreting and applying ethical coding standards.
• Good communication skills..
