Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Erwin, TN is seeking a Supervisor 1 -- Radiation Monitoring to supervise hourly personnel, ensure safe practices, and deliver a quality product on schedule.

The role requires 1 year of college chemistry or physics, 2 years of college education or 4 years of radiation safety experience, 1 year of applied health physics, and 1–2 years supervisory experience in a chemical or nuclear setting with the ability to obtain a DOE clearance.

Qualifications

• One year of college Chemistry or Physics.
• Two years of college education or in lieu of the 2 years of college education, 4 years of experience in radiation safety may be considered at the discretion of the Safety & Safeguards Director.
• One year of experience in applied health physics.
• One to two years experience in a chemical or nuclear facility or one to two years supervisory experience in a manufacturing or military environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Responsibilities

• Studies and understands the applicable requirements, labor contract, procedures, and equipment utilized in the work area.
• Trains and assigns hourly personnel to work to ensure that safe practices and correct job requirements are performed.
• Reports equipment malfunctions, procedural deviations, absenteeism, accidents, and/or other unusual occurrences.
• Prepares minor work orders and coordinates applicable work under major work orders and Radiation Work Permits.
• Reviews/approves applicable records, runsheets, and/or other documentation in the work area.
• Completes applicable reports and provides other information as requested.
• Administers disciplinary action when required and addresses inadequate performance issues promptly.

Education

One year of college Chemistry or Physics

Two years of college education or 4 years of radiation safety experience

One year of experience in applied health physics

One to two years supervisory experience in a manufacturing or military environment
