Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Sunnyvale, CA is seeking a PCB Layout Automation Intern to help develop automation tools using SKILL and Cadence Allegro PCB Designer while supporting high-speed PCB layout projects for networking hardware such as switches and routers.

You will collaborate with senior PCB engineers to streamline workflows, create reusable utilities, and standardize layout processes, gaining hands-on experience in both software and hardware aspects of networking hardware design.

Qualifications

• Exposure to SKILL
• Familiarity with Cadence Allegro PCB Designer
• Experience with Python, Tcl, or other scripting languages
• Participation in robotics, FPGA, PCB, or hardware-related student projects
• Interest in high-speed networking systems

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and testing SKILL-based automation utilities
• Modify and enhance existing SKILL scripts for differential pair validation, length matching reports, constraint audits, design rule automation
• Create simple custom Allegro forms (GUI elements) using SKILL
• Develop reporting tools for layout metrics and quality checks
• Document scripting workflows and best practices
• Support integration of Allegro automation with external scripts (Python or batch tools)
• Assist with basic routing and placement tasks
• Run design rule checks (DRC) and analyze results
• Support engineering change orders (ECOs)
• Observe high-speed routing methodologies for Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR interfaces
• Gain exposure to stack-up design and impedance control principles
