Job summary

UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the Inpatient Psychiatry department. This 100% onsite role supports patient treatment from admission to discharge, applying brief therapy/cognitive behavioral approaches and assisting patients with dual diagnoses while maintaining a recovery-focused environment.

The BHT will lead groups, perform safety checks, and document interventions succinctly for the care team.

Qualifications

• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• CPI certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
• 2 years prior experience working with patients with addiction issues.

Responsibilities

• De-escalates patients using CPI techniques and monitors behavior as needed.
• Facilitates educational sessions and groups per treatment plan.
• Conducts safety rounds and maintains a therapeutic milieu.
• Documents interventions and progress using appropriate formats.
• Interacts with families and guardians to answer questions about progress.
• Adheres to group rules and schedules, and supports recovery principles.
