Job summary

The SIGMA shared lab facility at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability is seeking a Research and Development Scientist and Engineer to support high-precision isotopic composition determinations. You will work with Stanford researchers using ICP-MS, laser ablation, and wet chemistry for sensitive sample analysis.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related natural science and three years of experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of scientific principles in quantitative characterization of materials.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical solutions to complex engineering/scientific problems using analytical thinking and advanced knowledge.
  • Provide training to laboratory users in techniques and data analysis, QA/QC.
  • Contribute to R&D to support research programs including sample preparation and data processing.
  • Collaborate with staff on technique development and optimize operations with laser ablation and solution modes.
  • Design and develop new analytical methods to meet user needs and co-evolve capabilities.
  • Maintain rigorous data quality requirements for lab users.
  • Coordinate daily operations, procure consumables, and ensure lab/instrument maintenance.
  • Maintain safety compliance per university/state/federal requirements, including handling of hazardous materials.
