Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to develop and validate transmission systems within a factory setting. The role emphasizes dyno testing, rig development, data-driven decisions, and reliability improvements without trackside duties.

You will analyze test results, investigate failures, and work with design and manufacturing to drive performance gains while ensuring testing programs mirror real-world race conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology and lubrication, fatigue and wear mechanisms.
• Experience with test rig operation and instrumentation including torque, speed, strain, and temperature measurements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute rigorous gearbox tests, including dyno testing and endurance life testing.
• Analyze high-resolution test data; assess gear durability, oil system behavior, and thermal performance.
• Lead root-cause investigations of gearbox failures and drive corrective actions.
• Develop, commission, and improve test rigs; ensure realistic simulation of race conditions.
• Collaborate with design and simulation teams to validate concepts and feed design improvements.
