Job summary

QuidelOrtho in Carlsbad, CA seeks an Equipment Engineer to provide engineering expertise for new product development, process improvement, and manufacturing technology. This onsite role supports R&D, Quality, Operations and external partners, with focus on capital equipment, documentation, and process optimization.

The ideal candidate has a BS in engineering and 3+ years in a high‑volume pharma/medical device setting, with strong problem solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3 years in pharma/medical device manufacturing.
• Subject matter expert on multiple equipment or processes.
• Understanding of cGMP and lean principles.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Select, install, diagnose and operate manufacturing equipment and lines.
• Lead capital equipment projects with vendors.
• Create and review manufacturing docs, validation and control plans.
• Develop control plans and KPIs to verify compliance.
• Maintain SOPs, BOMs, routings and work instructions.
• Train staff on new procedures and instructions.
• Analyze data with basic statistics.
• Monitor yield, scrap, OEE and throughput.
• Identify new technologies for process improvement.
• Support audits, CAPAs, NCRs and ECOs.
