Job summary

The University of Michigan-Flint Early Childhood Development Center is seeking an Associate Teacher to support delivery of a high-quality early childhood program. Working under the Lead Teacher, you will help implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and maintain a safe, nurturing learning environment reflecting the Center's Reggio Emilia-inspired philosophy.

This role requires collaboration, ongoing professional development, and active participation in planning and family communication.

Qualifications

• Must meet Michigan licensing requirements for child care staff.
• Background checks and MiRegistry verification completed.
• CPR/First Aid certification and safety training completed.
• Strong communication with children and families.
• Ability to work cooperatively on a classroom team and maintain safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher with curriculum, lesson plans, learning centers, activities, and routines.
• Provide active supervision and maintain ratios and group size.
• Support arrival, departure, meals, toileting or diapering, rest, transitions, and daily care routines.
• Use positive guidance and support children's development across cognitive, language, physical, social, and emotional areas.
• Assist with observations, portfolios, classroom records, and family communication.
• Prepare, organize, clean, sanitize, and maintain classroom materials and equipment.
• Support inclusion and implement care, accommodation, and behavior plans as directed.
• Follow procedures for incidents, injuries, illness, medication, emergencies, safe-sleep, and mandated reporting.
• Participate in planning, staff meetings, training, and quality initiatives as assigned.
