Job Title: Controller


Location: Onsite, Farmers Branch, Texas (Dallas-Forth Worth Metro)


Reports To: CEO


Job Overview: This pivotal role involves managing the record-to-report function of a growing construction company and leading a diverse team. The Controller will ensure financial integrity, fiscal responsibility, compliance, and strategic alignment with company objectives. The Controller's team will provide cost accounting and other operational reports to help the business profitably grow.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
    • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and operational reports.
    • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
    • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Collaborate with the CEO and other senior management to develop financial strategies and budgets that align with company goals.
    • Provide insightful financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making processes.
    • Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial data accuracy.
    • Coordinate and lead external audits, ensuring timely and accurate information is provided to auditors.
    • Stay abreast of changes in financial regulations and standards, ensuring the company remains compliant.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
    • Experience as a controller for a construction business unit of more than $300 million in revenue.
    • 10+ years of accounting experience.
    • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Leadership and Communication:
    • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and Collaboration:
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
