Qualifications

  • Experience developing and testing ETL jobs/pipelines and orchestrating workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python and BigQuery data stitching and enrichment.
  • Experience building batch and streaming pipelines; strong SQL and performance tuning.

Job description

The Senior Online Data Engineer will establish standards for data operations, build and maintain data pipelines, and enable analytics capabilities to support Home Depot's online data requirements.

Responsibilities
  • 20% - Business Collaboration
    • Translate extensive business knowledge into effective solution approaches
    • Foster trust and collaboration with internal customers and cross‑functional teams
    • Educate both technical and non‑technical business partners on advanced analytics concepts
    • Maintain a clear understanding of IT needs to ensure team success in addressing business challenges
    • Identify new opportunities to leverage data science as a competitive advantage
  • 30% - Project Management and Team Support
    • Partner with project teams and business stakeholders to define project goals
    • Provide guidance on prioritization and uphold quality standards
    • Mentor and coach junior team members to grow technical capabilities
    • Coordinate workload and resource distribution with managers and the team
    • Support recruitment and hiring efforts for the data team
  • 35% - Solution Development
    • Deliver tasks with high efficiency and quality
    • Select, apply, and interpret advanced analytics methodologies appropriately
    • Communicate insights and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical leaders and business partners
    • Prepare reports, updates, and presentations on project or solution progress
    • Explain the impacts of recommendations to align stakeholders and drive proper implementation
  • 15% - Technical Exploration and Development
    • Guide project teams through requirements gathering, design, and development of complex applications or programs
    • Pursue advances in analytics, technical skills, and additional data sources
    • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of predictive and prescriptive analytics with replicable solutions

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters in a quantitative field (Analytics, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Statistics, etc.) or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis
  • Experience developing and testing ETL jobs/pipelines, configuring orchestration, automated CI/CD, scripting for automation, and supporting pipelines in production
  • Proficiency in Python and experience coding for data stitching and enrichment using Google BigQuery
  • Experience building batch and streaming data pipelines
  • Experience writing analytical SQL queries and performance tuning
  • Ability to integrate data from multiple sources
  • Experience with front‑end technologies and QA applications (JavaScript, React, Nucleus, Retina, KPI Shield, Alert Goose)
  • Ability to generate tags for site data
  • Proven ability to use PySpark, AirFlow, and DataProc to engineer and automate data flows
  • Ability to optimize pipeline run times and reduce storage costs
  • Skill in prioritizing requests and managing a product roadmap
  • Coaching junior engineers to improve code quality and data engineering practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills at all levels
Minimum Education

The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a related field.
