About the Position
The Special Education Mentor provides consistent and high quality education and other servicesto students enrolled in the Special Education program at Williamsburg Academy of Colorado (WAC). This position also manages a caseload of students through maintaining IEPs, providing feedback, and ensuring a consistent flow of communication between WAC and families.
Note: The responsibilities of this position will primarily be done remotely. Additionally, this position may act as a Substitue or Guide for our in-person Adventures program, school club leader, or grading assistant during the school year.
Top 5 Essential Roles
1) Provide Special Education Services
Create specifically designed instruction targeted at IEP goals according to student’s identified needs.
Create individualized lesson plans and curriculum maps for courses assigned.
Build courses and assignments in Canvas in alignment with curriculum maps.
2) Caseload IEP Management
Regularly collect data for progress reports and IEP goals or updates.
Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings with essential stakeholders.
Manage all IEP notifications and paperwork.
Instruct, monitor, and report on student progress towards educational goals.
Coordinate with related service providers for student IEP needs and ensure delivery of these services, including SLP, OT, PT, and other services as needed.
Manage existing student schedules to ensure students receive proper service times.
Keep track of upcoming IEP meetings, eligibility, and re-evaluations for students in their caseload and maintain proper paperwork and documentation for these meetings.
3) Parent / Teacher Communication
Maintain consistent modes of communication with parents to ensure student success. This includes but is not limited to; phone, email, and text messaging.
4) Special Education Legal Compliance
Ensure all student files follow CO ECEA and IDEA standards, are up-to-date, and compliant in accordance with relevant State and Federal laws and regulations.
Obtain and maintain required licensure and certifications as required by the State of Colorado for Special Education educators.
5) Department Participation
Attend and actively participate in any department meetings, including but not limited to, L10’s, Grade Level Meetings, and Professional Development.
Develop quarterly goals, known as “Rocks” for personal professional development. Maintain consistent progress throughout the quarter and provide weekly updates on your Rock progress.
Report student attendance and/or other data on the weekly Scorecard. Create a plan of action to address any discrepancies.
Complete all assigned Asana tasks by the listed deadlines and respond to all emails within a reasonable timeline.
