Refactor Games is a AAA sports video game studio . We are developing the next generation of professional football (soccer) video games using Unreal Engine 5 . We’re building fast, reactive multiplayer soccer with real-time physics and no desync.

We’re looking for an Online Physics Sync Engineer who can ensure that gameplay feels deterministic and responsive, whether you're 5ms or 100ms from the server. You’ll work at the intersection of Chaos Physics, replication, prediction, and rollback—all tuned specifically for soccer gameplay where precision matters.

You'll Work On:

  • Frame-accurate synchronization of ball, player, and tackle physics in multiplayer
  • Deterministic prediction and rollback for input, collisions, and interactions
  • Network replication for physics-assisted animation and ragdoll systems
  • Latency compensation for ball control, passing, and first-touch moments
  • Debugging client/server physics divergence and state mismatches
  • Building lightweight state snapshots and reconciliation systems
  • Optimization for variable latency environments (LAN, 60ms+, jitter)

Requirements:

  • 5+ years engineering multiplayer or networked gameplay system.
  • Deep understanding of UE5’s replication framework and Chaos Physics
  • Experience with client-side prediction and rollback architecture
  • Proficiency in C++ and debugging networked simulation bugs
  • Strong math skills (especially linear algebra, vector math, quaternions)

Bonus Points:

  • Built multiplayer sports, fighting, or racing games (any tight-input genre)
  • Prior work on deterministic physics engines or peer-reviewed rollback
  • You care about the milliseconds between a tackle and the ball snapping away
