General Definition of Work

Under the direction of the Virtual Learning Administrator at Summit Virtual Academy, and Assistant Principal, the online teacher will guide student learning using Summit Virtual Courses and approved Canvas coursework created by the teacher. This is a temporary part‑time staff position. Work will be completed remotely over the course of the semester. Individuals hired will be eligible and considered for future contracts with Summit Virtual Academy.

Compensation

Hourly Wage Not to exceed 8 hours a week

Virtual Learning Administrator and Assistant Principal

Essential Functions

  • Find appropriate disciplinary materials including open educational resources (OER) and create resources for learning
  • Create weekly communication to students introducing coursework, providing group feedback, and complementing coursework to support student learning.
  • Review and provide authentic feedback on student work and submissions, and completion through the Asynchronous courses
  • Write Rubrics for assessments and tasks
  • Provide modifications to coursework and complement course when necessary for students
  • Offer at least one hour of weekly office hours for students outside the traditional school day
  • Develop relationships with students, parents, and school personnel through regular communication

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of the ability to use Canvas, Zoom and Google Suite
  • Ability to follow curriculum instructional outlines to develop resources, including NC State curriculum and Advanced Placement curriculum (AP)
  • Experience using the learning management system Canvas, Google, Microsoft and other software
  • Ability to communicate with students, parents and school staff through email
  • Ability to develop culture and relationships online through communication and personalized feedback
  • Ability to apply methods of instruction
  • Ability to effectively interact with Administration and other team members
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
  • Excellent record keeping and reporting skills.
  • Maintain professional attitude and communicate professionally with all stakeholders

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • NC certified in subject area
  • Proficient in Canvas

Physical Requirements

  • This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
  • Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.
  • Work has standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

  • NC Teacher Certification or have qualifications to obtain a NC teacher certifications NC DPI Licensure
