Job description

The Oneida County Community Navigator serves as a member of the Family Development Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County (CCEOC) to deliver programming to community members on childcare options and resources, and the services offered by the Family Development Program and other CCEOC programs. Education will take place throughout the community at off-site locations. The Navigator will work with community agencies to coordinate days and times to be on-site to meet with individuals. The Navigator will provide information to participants regarding CCEOC programs, community agencies, and services as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree and 2 years transferable program/functional experience.
  • At least one year of related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, teach, and evaluate educational programs through a variety of delivery methods to reach individuals and groups.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to various audiences.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to carry supplies or equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Position Details:

Expected Weekly Hours: 37.5 hours per week- Onsite Position. Wage/Hourly: $23.00 per hour Location: Oneida County CCE office in Oriskany, NY . No remote work available.

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery – 70% Utilize existing program materials and resources to educate community members on childcare options and resources, quality early care and education, and services offered by the Family Development Program and other CCEOC programs. Interact effectively with program participants to provide educational resources that meet their specific needs. Deliver programming at various settings including but not limited to community events and local organizations. Inform program participants of CCEOC programs, community agencies, and services. Interact with local health providers as well as prenatal providers to educate them on services. Assist in ensuring program conforms to policies and objectives of the program and funder requirements. Assist community members with childcare assistance application as part of program delivery. Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association and Family Development Program staff to achieve program delivery goals.

Program Evaluation – 5% Interact with program participants and clientele to collect evaluation data for improving programs and services. Implement program evaluation as designed. Assist supervisor in the process of analyzing program data, and based on that analysis, assist in making recommendations for improvements in program offerings. Communicate evaluation findings to constituents as appropriate.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction – 5% Provide input in planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods. Assist in the planning of Family Development programs and events. Assist supervisor in initiating effective professional relationships with childcare providers, other agencies, and organizations that promote effective communication to facilitate continued programming efforts.

Management – 5% Assist in identifying and recommending program needs (i.e. program supplies and materials). Provide programmatic guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work. Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise within educational programs utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.

Coordination/Operation – 10% Attend and participate in outreach events and community events as directed by supervisor. Actively participate in meetings, trainings and conference calls as required or as needed. Assist in the development of marketing materials for educational events. Coordinate, compile, and organize existing program resources and program materials including newsletters and mailing. Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected. Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

Professional Improvement & Other Duties as Assigned – 5% In cooperation with supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned. Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
