Bellwood School District 88 is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant (One-on-One) at McKinley Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role supports classroom instruction, assists with lesson prep, and helps manage the learning environment.

Requires an Associate's Degree or 60 credits and a valid Paraprofessional certificate from the Illinois State Board of Education. Salary range $17.45–$21.91 per hour; August–May schedule.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrating self-discipline and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
• Assist with lesson preparation by copying and distributing materials, equipment, and handouts.
• Support students who need additional assistance, including those with learning difficulties or language barriers.
• Reinforce learning concepts introduced by the teacher.
• Discuss assigned teaching areas with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
• Communicate with the teacher about student performance and needs.
• Assist with recording of the daily attendance.
• Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
• Assist the teacher with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, media center, and field trips.
• Assist the teacher in keeping bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date.
• May be required to assist in the supervision of students at recess, lunch and bus arrivals and departures; escort and/or remain with classes in Art, Music and Physical Education as requested.
• Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
• Participate in in-service training programs and professional development.
• Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
