Job summary

Njaseps is seeking a classroom assistant to support certified staff in meeting instructional goals and to free teachers from non-professional duties. Under supervision, you will help students in various settings and support curriculum development.

The role involves working with special education staff to implement IEPs, deescalating behavior using CPI techniques, and assisting in records and student work displays.

Qualifications

• NJ Substitute Certification or 60 College Credits required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of lead teacher/special education coordinator.
• Assist in the implementation of students' individualized education programs (IEPs).
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
• Work with other professionals, including counselors, speech therapists, social workers, occupational therapist, and physical therapist, to ensure that students' IEPs are properly implemented.
• Ability to verbally and physically deescalate acting-out students using CPI approach training methods.
• Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
• Support students with emotional and behavioral concerns and assist in developing appropriate social skills.
• Assist in the preparation and display of student work.

Position Purpose:

Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional duties such as proctoring study halls to enable them to make a contribution to other aspects of the educational program, such as curriculum development.
