Summit Veterinary Referral Center in Tacoma, WA is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join the Oncology team. You will assist veterinarians and technicians with oncology patient care, including restraint, monitoring, and comfort care, in a fast-paced specialty hospital.

The role emphasizes safety when handling chemotherapy and other treatments, collaboration with the team, and a path toward credentialed technician training.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant or in a veterinary hospital setting; specialty medicine experience is preferred but not required
• Comfort with safe patient handling and restraint
• Interest in oncology and a compassionate approach to patients and their families
• Able to lift patients and inventory up to 40 pounds

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians with the care of oncology patients, including patient restraint, monitoring, and comfort care
• Follow safety protocols for handling patients receiving chemotherapy and other oncology treatments
• Help keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment clean, stocked, and ready for appointments
• Support the Oncology team in delivering comprehensive care and customer service for patients, clients, and the referring veterinary community
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture
