Job Description Summary

This is a field-based and remote opportunity supporting key accounts in Chicago, IL and the surrounding area.

The Oncology Sales Specialist will be responsible for delivering sales performance and promoting products within the oncology, hematology, or rare disease portfolio of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a leading pharmaceutical company and pioneer in oncology. The ideal candidate will possess deep commercial insight, curiosity, a commitment to lifelong learning, leadership qualities, proactive customer service orientation, and proficiency in digital tools to leverage customer and data insights for improved sales in competitive markets.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate cross-functionally across geographies as ONE team, demonstrating influential leadership to achieve shared goals.
  2. Exhibit high self-awareness, passion for learning, the ability to inspire, challenge the status quo, and embrace change to optimize execution.
  3. Deliver clear and compelling messages to customers, handle objections effectively, and conclude calls with actionable commitments to influence behavior.
  4. Maintain a deep understanding of the territory's market landscape, competitors, segments, product data, and anticipate environmental changes to optimize performance.
  5. Develop and execute call plans to meet goals, enhance access, and identify sales opportunities, promoting a sophisticated and innovative product portfolio to a knowledgeable audience.
  6. Understand the local healthcare system, EMRs, pathways, and claims processing, managing accounts effectively with strategic planning.
  7. Utilize sales data reporting tools to analyze trends and combine insights to identify growth opportunities within the territory.
  8. Engage with social media platforms to gather customer insights and enhance tactical execution and customer experience.
  9. Adapt seamlessly between non-digital and digital settings, using non-personal tools strategically for customized customer interactions.
Essential Requirements:
  1. Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees are a plus.
  2. At least 2 years’ experience in specialty pharmaceuticals, biotech, or a similar sales role within the last 5 years.
  3. Proven ability to collaborate, communicate clinical information, perform consistently at high performance levels, and navigate large accounts and key customer segments effectively.
  4. Self-motivated with analytical skills to prioritize and solve problems, demonstrating ethical leadership and compliance with policies and laws.
  5. Must reside within the territory or within 50 miles of its border and be able to travel 60-80% across a broad geographic area, driving or flying as needed. Valid driver’s license required.
Desirable Requirements:
  1. Experience with various therapeutic groups, disease states, account management, and product launches.
  2. Knowledge of patient services, market access, reimbursement pathways, specialty pharmacy, and medical calling on healthcare professionals regarding sophisticated products or reimbursement processes.
Position Levels:
  • Oncology Representative: 2+ years’ experience
  • Oncology Specialist: 4+ years’ experience
  • Senior Oncology Specialist: 6+ years’ experience
Additional Information:

Driving is an essential function of this role. A valid, unrestricted driver’s license is required. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for medical restrictions without eliminating this function.

Compensation ranges are specified for each level, with potential bonuses and benefits. Salary may be adjusted based on market factors, experience, and location.

Initial training will be required, with a maximum of 40 hours per week.
